Here’s a rundown of shows on the west coast this week…

1. Nederlands Dance Theater 

Oct. 18-19, 7:30pm;  Oct. 20 2:00pm

Under the artistic leadership of Paul Lightfoot, NDT is one of the leading contemporary dance companies in the world. They will be performing 3 works at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion this weekend: Shoot the Moon, Same Difference, and Chamber.

 

2.  Robert Wilson: John Cage’s Lecture on Nothing

Tue, Oct 15 at 8:00pm

In a visually and acoustically inspired homage to revolutionary composer and philosopher John Cage, American theater luminary Robert Wilson performs Lecture on Nothing, one of the central texts of 20th-century experimental literature.  Presented by Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA on Royce Hall.

 

3.  Humor Abuse

Oct. 15th – 20th this week, but continues through Nov. 3rd.

“Life lessons fly fast and funny for Lorenzo Pisoni when he joins the family business – San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus – at the age of six, earning his clown college stripes (and polka dots) through on-the-job training with his exacting father as his role model, guru and comic foil.”   Presented by Center Theater Group and showing at the Mark Taper Forum.

4. Ptero Dance Theater 

“All the Exits are Lit” – Oct. 18 – 20th

A mash-up of live performance, dance sculpture, and dance film from local company Ptero Dance Theater happening at A Room to Create performance space in Pasadena.

 

5.  The Industry Opera and The LA Dance Project

“Invisible Cities” – Oct. 19 – Nov. 8th

An invisible opera for wireless headphones performed amidst the travelers at the historic Los Angeles’ Union Station.  This production breaks down the 4th wall and allows the audience to immerse themselves in the live production, happening all around them.
